Civic Society AGM. The History of Bennett's - Paul Hurst

George Bennett, a retired Master Mariner, purchased the Bennett's building from Weatherhead Walters & Son in 1864. The company was passed down through his family. Paul Hurst has owned the building since 2019 and will be talking to the Society about the Bennetts archive, which spans generations and is currently being archived and digitised.

The Commonwealth War Graves Commission: Architecture and Conservation - Jean Moss

This talk will look at the Commonwealth War Graves Commission's architecture, structures and memorials. It will highlight the key architects from the First and Second World War and looks at the conservation of structures today, some of which are over a century old. The Commission has a global estate, and structures are affected by the different environmental circumstances in different countries.

The Royal Lancers: We Will Remember - Angela Tarnowski

Angela Tarnowski, Curator of the Royal Lancers Museum will be providing a detailed history of the Royal Lancers Museum. The talk will include the significant objects in the collection; todays regiment and the links to Derby.

Joseph Wright of Derby - Lucy Bamford

Born in Derby in 1734, Joseph Wright is an internationally renowned artist, whose paintings and works on paper adorn the walls of major galleries the world over. Lucy Bamford is a Senior Curator of Art at Derby Museum; she is also an expert on Joseph Wright and has been involved in significant acquisitions and exhibitions relating to his work.
